Suluhisho Trust

When Clare decided to visit Kenya, to film the work of the Suluhisho Trust, little did she realize the profound impact it would have on her life. Suluhisho was established by Jacinta and Antipas Ojwang and is based in Kisumu in Kenya. This exhibition comprises a collection of contrasting images from Clare's time spent in Kenya. Her theme – the audacity of hope – highlights the ambitions of children and families everywhere.

Clare captured profound moments in the lives of orphaned and abandoned children at play, while parents and grandparents aspire to ensuring their children have a secure future. Suluhisho means 'Solution'. The aim of the Suluhisho Trust is to generate sustainable social enterprises in the rural community of Kisumu, and to provide education and support for children in the Suluhisho Children's Home.

Clare's photographs reflect the contrasts of Kenya – between children who are cared for and those living on the streets; between men with jobs and a purpose and those struggling to survive; between the squalor and chaos of the slums and the beauty and serenity of the African landscape.

There is nothing more audacious than hope, in the midst of despair.

About Clare Stephens

Inspired equally by emotive portraits and beautiful landscapes, I am so happy to have turned my life-long passion into my work through Your Life Through a Lens Photography.

I feel so fortunate to be able to use my freelance business to travel to places like Kenya to raise awareness for such wonderful causes.

During my time in Kenya, I also travelled to the Masai Mara, with the intention of creating some more timeless artwork to help to contribute further to this wonderful cause.

Profits from sales will be donated to Suluhisho Trust to help with their invaluable charitable work.
